The Florida Whig Party has, for several years, critically opined on the excessive compensation of employees of the South West Florida Water Management District. This is little doubt that we have been harsh and have shed light with our long list of $100,000+ employees. According to the Lakeland Ledger: "Dave Moore, executive director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, has resigned. Moore announced his resignation in a letter Thursday to Paul Senft, chair of the agency's Governing Board. Moore said he would be willing to remain in his $194,875-a year position to aid with the transition to his successor. Moore, a geologist, had been with the agency since 1984. He was named executive director in 2003. In his one-page letter, Moore, 53, gave no reason for his resignation, focusing instead on what the agency, which oversees water permitting in a 16-county area that includes most of Polk County, had accomplished in recent years." Sexual harrassment by a Hillsborough County Commissioner and the legal fees are in limbo, secret pay raise for a former Hillsborough County Administrator and the Hillsborough County Attorney having cozy lunches with someone the county is suing. Is this a return to the corruption of the 1980s?

Do you find this picture, a mother strapping a bomb to her child, upsetting? If not, why not? If so, what are you doing about it? If you say there is nothing you can do, therein lays the problem. The failure to speak out at every opportunity against, and defend against violence, is what allowed Hitler to murder millions of Jews in the 1930s and 1940s. Do not expect the Modern Tories to stand firm against violence, unless there is money in it for them, their two political parties, or their campaigns. Follow the money in the massive waste of expenditures with Homeland Security. Just like the granting of local school bus transportation contracts, it's not about what is in the best interest of We the People, but who you know and who is paid off.

Gregory Campbell, the son of Florida State Representative Daphne Campbell, has been snared in a $300,000 Medicaid scheme in which he is accused of fraudulently billing the agency for clients he didn’t provide any services for. The charges include grand theft, organized fraud, and Medicaid fraud, all first-degree felonies.

Will Governor Scott veto any, some, or all of the wasteful pork his Party put into the budget this year? True leadership demands nothing less than a big red VETO on several special interest spending items.
Two dozen Florida doctors who lost their Drug Enforcement Administration licenses as part of a federal crackdown on pain clinics still have clear Florida medical licenses. The state Department of Health consumer web site, which patients can use to look up doctors' histories, lists them with clean records. The DEA licenses are entirely separate from state licensure actions. LINK

We would like to hear from you. There are a wide range of issues that Whigs should be focused on. The Modern Tories should not be allowed to set the agenda; instead, we the people should always set the agenda. Let's run with that novel idea that began in the 1700s. NOTE: Florida Whigs are several cuts above the political ca-ca from those who opine behind the anonymous blogs of brands X, Y, and Z. Anonymous blogs, pseudo political movements and parties, and self-appointed community leaders, who opine without attribution are protected under the First Amendment (free speech); however, Florida Whigs should never take anyone serious who is not willing to attach their legitimate name and contact information to their works. As the 2012 election draws near, ignore the immature cry babies and instead: CRITICALLY THINK.

A government agency lost traffic tickets. A substantial amount of time passes. The tickets are found. Now the government wants those cited to pay up or else. This is exactly what is wrong with the nation and another case of situational ethics. The taxpayer needs to follow rules and timelines, but government makes a mistake, and can take all the time it wants to, in essence, file charges. How does one contest the charges when so much time has passed. It's just plain wrong.

Backroom Politics: Jacksonville greyhound race track sought a huge tax break. Senate Rules Chair, John Thrasher (R) is a former lobbyist for the Jacksonville Kennel Club. Thrasher, who appeals to God fearing Christian Republican voters should now ask why he pushed extremely hard for a significant expansion of gambling despite his "on-his-knees" appeals during elections for their votes. Modern Tories and Hypocrites are truly getting old. Have you had enough?
